Sustainability

From its earliest days, One Earth Farms has operated with the understanding that it is being entrusted with lands. This means that we have a responsibility as stewards of these lands and acknowledge that they need to be managed in a way that will provide returns for many generations.

Assessment Land Use and Productive Capacity

Each year, One Earth Farms provides landlords with reports outlining our operations on their lands, as well as agronomic backup to support decisions made.

As we explore new opportunities to lease lands, much time is spent up front meeting with landlords, reviewing the condition of available lands, and working with the landlords and reviewing agronomic indicators to establish the best use of the land. We determine whether crop production or grazing would be better on that land and what a fair value would be, based on the land’s best use and productive capacity. Land valuations are also influenced by the application of a financial modeling exercise to learn the potential for a return on that investment.

Our Sustainability Model

Our sustainability model is to follow best agricultural practices and employ leading-edge technology. This supports our commitment to being a strong, long-term partner with our landlords.

A Land and Community Investment

We commit to improving the productivity of the land and to supporting local communities. We are true to our word and our agreements, regardless of the farming conditions in any single year.

OEF firmly believes that agriculture provides long-lasting benefits to communities and that—through investments in farming and cattle operations, a dedication to sustainable operations, and a commitment to providing on-going opportunities for economic development—this is a sustainable model that will provide enduring returns for OEF and its partners.

Custom Farming

We treat custom farming in a similar way. As we identify opportunities to custom farm various lands, we work with landowners to establish cropping plans and budgets that are agronomically sound and that maximize returns without negatively impacting the ability of the land to produce over the long term.
